Welcome to The Door Company: the best way to buy doors online

Ordering from TheDoorCompany.com can be completed in just 6 easy steps. However, if you are unfamiliar with doors and door terminology, we recommend that you first read these instructions carefully before placing your order. For international inquiries, large quantity orders or help with the ordering process, please contact us at 1-800-556-7525

Step 1: Choose Door Design
Go to the Product Catalog or click on Place Order to view the door designs in the product catalog. Scroll through the designs until you find the door you like. Then click on the desired door to view additional information and define your layout and options. Doors are categorized as either exterior or interior. Each door design will be shown with its name, wood species and price. Doors are shown stained, but are sold unfinished or primed and the actual product may vary slightly from items pictured. Prices shown are for "slab" doors (the door only without any prehanging, staining, hinges, etc.)

Step 2: Select Door Layout
Once you've chosen a door design, you must select your desired door layout (or configuration) from the options provided. Choose only one layout and then click Continue to proceed with the specification and ordering process.

Prices are shown for the door design in each of the layout options available. You can also view other door designs with layout pricing by clicking on either Previous Door or Next Door. If your door is an exterior door, you will choose from up to six options. Exterior door layouts are shown as if you are standing on the outside of your house and facing the door you want to replace. If it is an interior door, you will choose from up to three options and the side you view the door from is not relevant at this time.

Step 3: Assign Door Swing
All doors are denoted by the direction of their swing (or hand). This must be determined to be sure that the door you order opens in the correct direction for your home. There are a number of different ways to determine door swing, when ordering from TheDoorCompany.com, use the following method:

Face the door from the hinge pin side (the side that you can see the hinges on when the door is closed). If the hinges are on your left, it is a Left Hand door. If the hinges are on your right, it is a Right Hand door.

If it is an exterior door, you must also determine in which direction the door will swing when the door is opened. If the door swings into the house, it is an Inswing door. If it swings to the outside of the house, it is an Outswing door. Your options for door swing are as follows:

  Single Door Units

Interior Door Swings   Exterior Door Swings
Left Hand   Left Hand Inswing
Right Hand   Left Hand Outswing
    Right Hand Inswing
    Right Hand Outswing

Double Doors Swing
When ordering double doors, you'll have both a right and a left hand door. One door, however, must be designated your active door (the door that is most used and must be opened first). View the doors from the hinge pin side. If the active door is to be on your left, it is Left Hand Active. If the active door is to be on your right, it is Right Hand Active.

And again, if it is an exterior double door unit, you must determine whether it is an Inswing or Outswing door unit. Your options for exterior double door swing are as follows:

  Double Door Units

Interior Door Swings   Exterior Door Swings
Left Hand Active   Left Hand Active Inswing
Right Hand Active   Left Hand Active Outswing
    Right Hand Active Inswing
    Right Hand Active Outswing

Step 4: Assign Specifications & Options
In order to provide you with the complete specifications for the door design and layout you have selected, a few additional pieces of information are required. Once the following information has been specified, click Continue to view the complete specifications of your door.

Door Width
The width of the door only as measured in inches. Choose from the options provided.

Jamb Width
The width of the door jamb, either 4-9/16" or 6-9/16", depending on whether your home is framed with 2x4's or 2x6's. To measure jamb width, open the door and measure the jamb. On exterior doors, do not include the thickness of the interior casing or exterior brick moulding attached to the jamb. On interior doors, do not include any of the trim work or casing. Most interior doors will use a 4-9/16" jamb.

Dead Bolt:
Only applicable for exterior doors, indicate either "yes" you would like to have a dead bolt lock hole bored into your door, or "no" you do not.

Step 5: Review Complete Specifications & Options
This is your opportunity to review all of the final specifications and options for your door before adding the door to your shopping cart. If you need to change an option before adding to your shopping cart, you can still do so with any of the drop down boxes shown. Once you agree that these are the specifications and options you desire, click on Add to Cart to continue with the purchase process.

In the final specifications, you'll find a graphic representation of the door and door swing along with the complete package price and shipping weight for a single unit (package price does not including shipping).
